We’re Hiring: Become an Asheville Rooftop Bar Tour Guide
Love Asheville? Love meeting people? Comfortable being the center of attention for a few hours? We may have the perfect part-time job for you.
Asheville Rooftop Bar Tours is looking for an enthusiastic, dependable, and engaging tour guide to join our team and help visitors and locals experience Asheville from an entirely different perspective.
Our tours are about much more than visiting rooftop bars. Guides are storytellers, hosts, amateur historians, photographers, Asheville ambassadors—and often the people our guests remember most about their experience.
What You’ll Do
As a tour guide, you’ll lead guests on approximately three-hour walking tours through downtown Asheville, visiting some of the city’s most distinctive rooftop venues along the way.
You’ll share entertaining stories about Asheville’s history, architecture, arts, landmarks, and culture while helping guests discover the city from above. You’ll also:
Create a warm, fun, and welcoming atmosphere for every group.
Coordinate timing, seating, and communication with our rooftop partners.
Keep the tour moving smoothly without making guests feel rushed.
Help guests with photos and provide recommendations for enjoying Asheville.
Answer questions and engage guests in conversation throughout the experience.
Represent Asheville Rooftop Bar Tours professionally with guests and our hospitality partners.
Who We’re Looking For
First and foremost, you need to love people.
Our guides meet guests from across the country and around the world. You should genuinely enjoy talking with people, be comfortable speaking in front of groups, and have the personality to turn a collection of strangers into a group that's having fun together.
You should also love Asheville. You don't need to arrive knowing every date, building, or historical figure—we provide training and extensive tour materials—but curiosity is essential. An interest in Asheville history, architecture, arts, food, hospitality, and culture will make you a much stronger guide.
Previous experience in tourism, hospitality, education, customer service, theater, public speaking, or a related field is a plus, but it isn't required. Personality, enthusiasm, and dependability matter just as much to us.
Reliability Matters
Our guests have made reservations. Our rooftop partners have prepared for our arrival. Drinks and seating may have been arranged in advance. An entire evening depends on the guide being there.
That's why reliability is one of the most important qualifications for this position. When you commit to leading a tour, we need to know we can count on you to arrive prepared, enthusiastic, and on time.
A Flexible Part-Time Opportunity
This is a part-time position with a variable schedule based on tour bookings. Most tours take place during the afternoon and evening, with weekends and Asheville's peak tourism periods being especially important.
Because demand changes from week to week, flexibility is essential. There may also be opportunities to pick up tours with relatively short notice.
Candidates must be 21 or older and physically comfortable walking and standing for approximately three hours, including working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
What We Offer
Competitive pay plus tips
Flexible part-time scheduling
Training and ongoing support
Opportunities to meet people from all over the world
A fun, social work environment
Some of the best rooftop and mountain views in Asheville
The opportunity to represent a locally owned Asheville tourism business
More Than a Tour Guide
The best Asheville Rooftop Bar Tours guides don't simply memorize a script and lead people from one rooftop to another.
You're the host of someone's Asheville experience.
You help strangers become friends. You bring the city's past to life through stories and historic photographs. You introduce guests to great local businesses. You point out architectural details they might otherwise walk right past. And you help people experience a side of Asheville they might never have discovered on their own.
If you're outgoing, curious, flexible, dependable, and genuinely excited about Asheville and the people who come here, we'd love to hear from you.
